Dr. Danni’s Tried and True Green Smoothies!
Here are some tips and amazing recipes for smoothies that are easy to make and a lot of FUN! Be sure to blend veggies and greens first and then add the fruits and added “boost”s second to make for a consistently smooth “smoothie”
Most recipes make 2 full quarts of delicious smoothie. If you have a smaller blender like a NutriBullet or Ninja cut the recipe down by ¼- ½ depending on the size of blending cup you are using- 24oz vs. 32 oz . All recipes here were created in my full size Vitamix blender. The larger capacity of the Vitamix is great for making smoothies for two people, or you can refrigerate the second quart to enjoy later. I recommend trying to use as little fruit as possible to make the smoothie taste good. The goal is to increase your intake of veggies and greens. The more deeply colored the fruit the more nutrient dense it is. Try to use “white” fruits sparingly for sweetness. By “white fruits” I mean apples, pears, bananas, pineapple, and the like. For the liquid you can use water, coconut water, or unsweetened nut or coconut milks. If you have individual dietary needs (high blood sugar, cancer, weight loss etc) or specific food sensitivities please make the necessary substitutions to the recipe. There are endless smoothie recipes and ideas to be found on the web. In general there is a recommended ratio of 2:3 ( veggies : Fruit). I recommend that you flip that ratio to get 3 cups veggies : 2 cups or less fruits. Be creative!!!! I will continue to share as I discover and create new and delicious recipes, I encourage you to do the same. Be sure that all fruits and veggies are ORGANIC!
