We all know antioxidants are good for you but ever wonder what they actually are?
🍅Antioxidants are natural compounds that respond to oxidative stress in the body.
🫐Oxidative stress can be generated by food, stress, infections, toxins, and more. They perpetuate inflammation and damage cellular machinery, mitochondria, DNA, cell membranes and proteins.
🍇Oxidative stress can accelerate aging, promote cancer cell growth, and is associated with just about any disease you can think of.
🥦Antioxidants neutralize oxidative stress and are the foundation of healthy cell function. Some of my favorite antioxidants are: glutathione, vitamin C, NAC, alpha lipoid acid, and the natural antioxidants found in colorful produce.
🍋If you want more antioxidants in your life, colorful fruits and vegetables are a good place to start (that color is chemistry)! Supplemental antioxidants are very important but MUST be balance so make sure to work with a doctor if you are taking those!!
