Going back to college chemistry, many of us have heard of these elements, but do not know of their importance. We are actually consuming these minerals daily, and they can compete with each other for absorption in the body because their structures are so similar.
We need one of these 3 minerals for our health and it is iodide. We need it for all of our glandular tissues, including the important thyroid gland. We think about supplementing with iodine but sometimes forget to talk about the importance of eliminating bromine and fluorine. Bromine is in most white flours and sugars, including all breads and flour-based products. It is also in many commercial sodas. Flouride is in many water supplies, toothpastes, and also gets released into the air when you cook with nonstick pans. Many people avoid putting fluoride on their teeth but did not know that using their nonstick pans everyday for cooking can be also exposing them and their children to fluoride. Unfortunately, this is one example that it is as important what we do not eat as what we do eat. It is as important to avoid fluoride and bromide as it is to add in proper forms of iodine such as sea vegetables (seaweed) and shellfish. Throw those nonstick fluoride-containing pans AWAY. Replace them with nonstick ceramic or cast iron pans – they are not worth damaging your health and glands!
